From the very first practice Keith Files, from England was a quick entry.
As the weekend progressed he sorted out several track quirks that gave him
a better lap time and in the end he was the fastest TR-4 consistently. The
three laps of the Kastner Cup he was the quickest by over a second per lap
and then exceeded that with the next two laps even faster than the balance
of the field. He never put a wheel wrong the entire race, only Sam Halkias
in his very fast TR-6 was quicker.
Keith is a nice guy, races a vintage
TR-6 in England and leaves this TR-4 in the USA for his forays into vintage
racing here several times per year. His car is one of my cars from the 1966
Sebring event that has been raced steadily since that time.
Keith had his
mechanic Jon Wood go through the car last year after his race in Michigan
and get it ready for this event. The car was parked at Jeff Snooks Museum
for the winter and brought to the track by Terry Stettler, Jeff Snooks full
time mechanic and restoration specialists. Keith told me he intends to have
the car restored to the same colors and appearance as the original cars I
took to Sebring for next year's events. The car and the cup will be at the
Jeff Snook Car Museum.
